Day 12 – Tokyo Smoothie Adventure
Coming from Australia I was used to juice bars and smoothie cafes on every block. Sadly that is not the case in Tokyo. This fact lead to a lot of home made smoothies and I guess in a positive light less waste, less money spent at juice places and more creative adventures in my own kitchen. But when I found out, not too long ago, there was a smoothie cafe called Smooch not far from the fitness center that I teach at I was so excited. I popped in by myself for the first time and have been inviting people ever since. (I was there today actually with a bunch of friends.)
Concerned that maybe I was just too overexcited by the bright interior and the hula hoop like logo I decided to invite some of the Hoop Lovers along to sample some of the sweet combos on offer.
We each chose a smoothie from the extensive and interesting menu, there were seasonal specials, regular smoothies and also boosters to add. After grabbing our icy cold and colorful smoothies we crammed into the hot pink booth and did some serious taste testing. Here are the results…
Mihoe and her Cactus & Red Currant Smooch
Rating: 7/10
Comments: Good texture, crunchy with an interesting flavor.
Kana with her Passion Fruit Smooch
Rating: 6/10
Comments: Not what I expected. Not too sweet but it tastes fresh. Has a little banana, but not too strong. I wanted something sweeter.

Caroline with her Strawberry Apricot Smooch
Rating: 6.5/10
Comments: A little bland with bits of dried apricot to add sweetness.
Melissa with her Pineapple Ginger Smooch
Rating: 6/10
Comments: A good degree of sweetness. Could be more icy, tastes a little too milky.
Makiko with her Raspberry Fig Smooch
Rating: 7/10
Comments: A strong raspberry flavor which was not surprising.
Me with my Black Sesame Smooch
Rating: 6/10
Comments: It was delicious and sweet but I like fruity, icy smoothies. This smoothie is milky so I simply picked the wrong one.
I have been to Smooch many times since discovering it’s location last month. The staff are friendly, the icy smoothies are yummy and the walls are hot PINK! What more could a smoothie loving girl in Tokyo ask for?
Action of the day: Make a colorful, tropical, icy smoothie with all the sweet, delicious fruits that you love. Put a paper umbrella in the top, grab a long straw, find a quiet place, close your eyes as you slowly sip up all the goodness daydreaming that you are on a stunning tropical island with the cool breeze blowing on your skin and your favorite people all sipping smoothies around you. mmmm
Video of the Day:
Question of the day: Do you have a smoothie or juice bar in your area? What are your favorite combinations?
Affirmation: I dance with freedom of spirit and love in my heart
Inspiration: There is a bit of insanity in dancing that does everybody a great deal of good. ~Edwin Denby
